some one once said
that i was blind
because i could not see
what was in front of me

some one once said
that i was deaf
because i could not hear
the call of someone who was very near

someone once said
that i was dumb
because i could not speak
my mind while i was in the hot seat

and in reply i said
that i could see
the beauty of the world
i could see the beauty of a birds wings
when they unfurled
just before flight

and in reply i said
that i could hear
the very beat of his heart
when he was happy or when in fear

and in reply i said
that a picture is worth a thousand words
so look about and you'll see
that there are paintings and pictures
look around and you'll see
that they are drawn and painted by me
